A Quick Daily Routine to Support Place Value Understanding

Do you teach upper elementary or middle school and looking for something to support students with fractions, decimals, or percents? Then keep reading! Here is a quick daily routine to support place value understanding with your students.

How far are we through the first 100 days of school? This is a simple and flexible routine that will help students with their place value understanding. Students need to figure out the day as a fraction, decimal, percent, words, and model it!

There are so many ways to incorporate it into your daily math block. I have it posted in my room so that we can see it every day. You can do it whole group at the beginning, middle, or end of class. It can also be your bell ringer every day, where students need to write their answers on a white board when they come in to class every day. And so many other options!

One reason I love this quick daily routine is that it supports so many different standards and understandings. I teach 5th grade, so knowing how to write the fraction, decimal, words, and model is imperative. But I am also exposing them to percents, a sixth grade standard. That connection between fractions, decimals, and percents is so important.

Simple, easy, yet effective! This is truly a quick daily routine to support place value understanding. Click the link below to download the posters so you can start using this quick place value routine in your classroom today!
